The secret to finding RARE collectible items is simply searching ‘internationally’. Yes, online stores like eBay have multiple stores each one dedicated to a country (see list below). When you search your local eBay, it is only searching your own country but to search internationally, you have to visit each of the 10 country eBay stores.
A collector recently mentioned to me how he was able to pickup paintings and drawings at a fraction of their local cost. Not only were the items extremely rare, they were in abundance because he was buying the items in the U.K. even though the subject matter and destination was Australia.
In other words, the English did not recognise the scenes, nor the painters and so they under-valued the items. The collector simply purchased the items, had them delivered and resold them in Australia, sometimes at 1,000% markup.
